On behalf of the Birgu Local Council, I would like to welcome you to the official website of Malta’s oldest Maritime Capital, the City of Birgu. Yet another initiative which the Local Council embarked upon to re-vitalise and modernize its official website.
My fellow councillors and myself, are equally dedicated to utilizing the latest technology to create helpful resources that benefit the residents and visitors of Citta Vittoriosa; and the internet is a rapid worldwide information service to achieve these aims.
This ancient, medieval City, long ago battered and besieged by the might of opposing powers suffered another bitter siege in World War II, which laid it once again in ruins. Like the mythological phoenix , through the resilience of its citizens, Birgu rose from its ashes to emerge defiantly as a City of art and culture.
We believe that our website is another important tool to advertise to the world the historical, architectural, cultural and social aspects of the City of Birgu - basically what the City of Birgu is capable to offer.
